Having watched Sex and the City
sporadically over the years I haven’t put much thought into the characters and
the plot, that is, until I sat down and attempted a Sex and the City Marathon
which led me to ask…Could Carrie Bradshaw be the worst human on the planet?
Yes I phrased it the same way she phrases all her ridiculously simple minded questions like “Are men like handbags?”
While I concede that sex and the city is a fictional show I still wonder how women everywhere watch this and not question how much of a shit human being Carrie is, and if you need proof I shall provide you with some:
-Aiden, a man who adores the ground she walks on, Carrie chooses to respond to his doting ways by cheating on him with Big, this was not just a slip up, drunken romp that happened once, this was a full blow affair. After this she then practically manipulated and guilted him into getting back with him, accepted his marriage proposal only to swiftly reject is when she decided marriage isn’t for her.
-Her shoes, not only can she not afford a place to live due to the fact she has spent upwards of 40 thousand dollars on shoes she then again plays the poor me card and gets Charlotte to give up her wedding ring so she can stay in her apartment (because no where else has a large enough closet)
Not to mention the episode Carries $485 pair of tacky silver heels goes missing from a party, resulting in the almost stalking of the hostess by Carrie that ended in a fake wedding to herself so she could scam a pair of shoes out of said hostess, when it should have ended in a restraining order.
-Natasha, She ruined this girls marriage, and proceeded to run like a little bitch fro the apartment when caught… man up.
-Her terrible Segway’s, come on, she uses practically anything said as a Segway to talk about her, or her issues, or her men, “some people just get under your skin… when I saw big the other night …" like how is that connected? Or worst she makes no effort to even create a Segway and just ignore s the other person completely; now Miranda’s about to kill her child because she is stressed to the max, this is the perfect time to bring up her obsession with what her ex boyfriends ex girlfriends facial expression.
-Jury duty, her belief that because she is a freelance writer she is exempt from jury duty, who exactly do you think you are? Opera?
-General neglect of her friends, mostly due because of a man, Carrie is willing to up and leave at anytime to run to a mans call, or leave a stressed out friend in the street because she isn’t wearing her perfect outfit and she sees her man yonder; leaving a blindfolded charlotte alone ina mall while she shops for shoes, oh and we mustn’t forget the three day train ride Samantha endured so Carrie can have sex with Mr Big.
However Carries terrible life choices and self-obsessed attitude wasn’t enough to distract me from unanswerable questions and factors raised like:
- How do these women pay for everything? Carrie a freelance writer, especially before her book was published she was spending approximately 400 bucks on each new pair of shoes, eating out daily, living by herself in a large apartment and still managing to fork out for 10 buck cocktails… I cant afford $12 K-mart shoes to match my op shop outfit let alone $400 Manolo Blahnik to go with a god knows how much Prada dress.
-They have new men weekly, where do they find these men? No seriously where? My friends and I go out, it does not usually end in some sophisticated guy willing to wine and dine us; best we get is a slurred “you want the D?” sigh

How is there no bitching and back stabbing, now now lets not pretend this is some stereotype and I’m some horrible person, its inevitable that as women and 4 totally different women at that, there is going to be a certain level of bitchiness. How does Cynical Miranda put up with Carries self obsession and Charlottes doe eyes view of the world? Why does Charlotte in all her prudish ways endure Samantha’s dirty talk? And really how does everyone adore Carrie so much? She’s awful… awful like her fashion sense.
-Talk about Sexpectations, these women are having mind blowing sex every second week, most of the time with sexy, intelligent, rich men... again I ask, where are they finding these men?! And how may I ask can each sexual encounter end in some mind blowing, life altering, sound barrier breaking orgasm?
Carrie may be one of the worlds worst fictional characters next to the Grinch and Voldemort but so many girls view her as someone they would love to be, comparing themselves to her and trying to convince others they are just like Carrie, not me I tell you, this show has had zero effect on me sips cosmopolitan, now will you excuse me I am late for a meeting with my closest girlfriends, we are getting ready to go out and troll for men.
